Privateer Build for Gravelbike.com

I just had to take some pictures of this bike before sending it off. The Privateer is such a versatile bike, so it can be built up many different way for different conditions and riding styles. This one is set up for unpaved roads, long distance rides and some light trail riding.

We used all our favorite parts on this build. Plenty of gears, friction shifters, chubby tires, and a semi upright hood position make this build ideal for all day rides off the beaten track.

The Soma Classic Curve fork matches the frames geometry perfectly, and looks great with the silver panels and components. The traditional fork blade bends make this especially compliant ride.

Tons of clearance, even with 38c tires.

The Sun XCD rear derailleur allows you to shift a wide range cassette paired with the Sugino XD triple cranks.

Keep an eye on www.gravelbike.com for the upcoming review.

Hit the ground running!

It's been about 2 years since New Albion Cycles began, and a lot has happened in that time. What started as a rough concept sketched out on the back of scrap paper has now become a full bike line. The Privateer frames have been shipping for a about a month now and the first run of Homebrews just arrived stateside. We're still waiting on the Starling mixte frames, and we have a few other ideas that we're working on, but overall things are looking really good.

Here's the official product shot of the Homebrew complete bike as they look now. These are in stock at our wholesale distributors and starting to show up in bike shops across the country.

We're really pleased with the feedback we've been getting so far, and we hope that more people will get a chance to check our bikes our in person. We've made some updates to the website, and started a Flickr group for people to share their builds and ride pictures, so check it out and take a look at what people have been posting.

New Albion

Does the world need another bicycle brand? If every entrepreneur asked that when considering a project, they wouldn't be doing much entrepreneuring.
The American Spirit has always been to try to do their own things --- if not better --- at least different ---- if not innovative --- at least cooler looking. We do what we like and hopefully someone else will like what we make. Not always the smartest way to go, but passion is not in the brain, is it?

New Albion was what explorer Sir Francis Drake called the part of the rugged Northern California he discovered in 1579. Albion means England, so it kind of like the west coast's "New England" (not really).

New Albion is also the name of the first micro-brewery in the United States. Being raised in Northern California and enamored with its history and being a big fan of the small beer, we dub our new bikes, New Albion.

New Albion celebrates the pioneers (and bicycles) of yesteryear.
